Moraiyo (Samo) Khichadi

Moraiyo khichadi is very popular and quick faraal recipe which everyone can enjoy while fasting.

Ingredients :


  • 2 tbsp oil or ghee
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 4-5 curry leaves
  • 2 tbsp peanuts
  • 2 green chili finely chopped
  • 1 cup potatoes chopped
  • 1/2 cup moraiyo
  • 2 cup water
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder (optional)


Steps:

  1. Rinse the moraiyo very well and keep it aside. 
  2. On medium heat, in deep sauce pan, take oil or ghee. then add cumin seeds, curry leaves, green chili and peanuts. let it cook for 1 minute. 
     
  3. Add potatoes and let it cook on lower heat for few minutes with cover lid. Cook potatoes until its tender or 50% done because moraiyo tends to cook very fast. 
  4. Now add moraiyo, salt , water and turmeric powder, close the lid and cook until moraiyo is done on lower heat. Stir every 2 mins so it will not stick to bottom. 
     
     
  5. Serve hot with curd or faraal kadhi. 

Notes

Some people don't add turmeric powder, if so you can omit it.
For my all Faraal recipe, I combine oil and ghee(clarified butter). Ghee will enrich the taste.
