Rajma is one of the popular dish in north indian cuisine.

Ingredients :

  • 1 cup Kidney beans
  • 3 cup water
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 3/4 cup onion finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp garlic paste
  • 1 tsp ginger paste
  • 1 cup tomato puree(2 medium tomatoes)
  • 1 tsp green chili paste(optional - for more spicy)
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 2 tsp coriander- cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp coriander leaves chopped

Steps :

  1. Wash the kidney beans and soak it 6-8 hours or overnight. Now cook the beans with 3 cup of water and salt in pressure cooker till 5-6 whistle. Let the air released itself.

  2. In a big pan, on medium heat, add oil.when its hot, add bay leaf and onion, saute the onion till it translucent.

  3. Add ginger- garlic paste, green chili paste and cook it for few second. I haven't added green chili as my kids don't eat spicy.
  4. Add tomato puree and mix it. Now add red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander-cumin powder, garam masala and salt, stir it.
  5.  Cook it on medium heat for 5 min with covered lid. Nice aroma will be started coming.
  6. Its time to add beans. Add boiled kidney beans with water into puree. mix well and let it cook for 10 mins on medium heat, stir occasionally.
  7. Garnish it with coriander leaves.
  8. Serve hot with roti, naan or rice.

Notes

  • Rajma curry will be little bit thicker when its cool down. so you can add more water to get consistency of your choice.

I'm Smita Patel. I'm currently full time mom for my two kids. By profession, I am an engineer and was working full time job but stopped working so I can give ample time to my kids.
My love for cooking started after I had kids as I would be always searching for new ways to make them eat perfect meals. Making them eat the same food made it boring for. So I started searching and experimenting with different recipes. And my family is loving it.
